Movement in Color #8
A struggle from start to finish, Movement #8 was a difficult, but extremely rewarding birth. He was scrapped three separate times, and I kept referring back to my work with Movement #2, which remains a favorite for its extreme abstraction. For this work, I had to throw out everything I had learned with the other Movements, as well as my reference, and find what was beautiful within the shapes that were happening before me. Like a child that isn't interested in the aspirations of their parents, I had to accept what the painting told me it wanted to be. Once I relented control, the work took on its own life, flourishing into a beautiful, organic, and surprising work of art.
